Professor Mandrup appointed Chair at the Novo Nordisk Foundation

January 31, 2017

From Janurary 2017, Danish IAS Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Professor Susanne Mandrup, is also Chair at the new established Committee on Bioscience and Basic Biomedicine at the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Besides Professor Mandrup as Chair, the committee consists of ten other members from Denmark.

The Board has decided to grant DKK 88 million (€11.8 million) annually via the applications evaluated by the Committee. The grant budget is allocated to project grants (DKK 50 million), two Hallas-Møller Investigator Grants (DKK 22 million), and four Postdoc Fellowships for Research Abroad (DKK 16 million).

You need an impressive career to be part of these committees. On the foundations webpage it says: Committee members are internationally recognised experts in their field, often supplemented by experience gained as members of research councils and academic assessment committees. The Foundation’s various committees are therefore highly qualified to assess the quality, originality and feasibility of projects, which ensures that grants are awarded for high-quality research.

Professor Mandrup is also a member of The Committee on International Research Leader Grants, at the Novo Nordisk Foundation. These grants are aimed at promising research leaders who wish to establish their research group in Denmark to carry out visionary research within biomedicine or biotechnology.
